AVIATION NEWS-Latvian national airline airBaltic reported continued growth in passenger traffic during June 2026, carrying 509,700 passengers across its route network, representing a 2% increase compared with the same month last year.
During the month, the airline operated 4,535 flights, up 6.2% year-on-year, reflecting continued network expansion and increased operational capacity. The airline recorded a load factor of 81.9%, a decrease of 2.2 percentage points from June 2025, primarily due to the addition of more available seats across its network.
For the first six months of 2026, airBaltic transported a total of 2.45 million passengers, marking a 3.9% increase compared with the same period in 2025 and setting a new record for passenger traffic during the January–June period. Over the same timeframe, the carrier operated 23,634 flights, representing a 5% year-on-year increase.
The airline currently connects the Baltic States with more than 80 destinations across Europe and beyond, supporting regional tourism, business travel, and economic development through expanded connectivity.
Founded in 1995, airBaltic is Latvia’s flag carrier and operates one of Europe’s youngest fleets, consisting entirely of Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The airline employs more than 3,000 people and is majority-owned by the Latvian state.
In recent years, airBaltic has continued to strengthen its market position through innovation and service excellence. In 2025, it became the first European airline to introduce free high-speed SpaceX Starlink internet on board its flights. In 2026, the carrier was ranked among the world’s 50 safest airlines by AirlineRatings for the second consecutive year and received the APEX Five Star Major Airline Award along with the Best Wi-Fi in Europe Award.
