AVIATION NEWS- Emirates has marked World Chocolate Day by unveiling the craftsmanship and expertise behind its onboard chocolate experience, highlighting how the airline sources, selects, and serves millions of premium chocolates and handcrafted chocolate desserts to customers across its global network each year.
The airline revealed that passengers consume more than 64 million pieces of premium chocolate annually, an increase of four million compared with the previous year. In addition, Emirates produces approximately 26 million handcrafted chocolate desserts each year across its four cabin classes, ranging from chocolate mousse cakes in Economy Class to premium plated desserts in First Class.
Supporting this large-scale operation, Emirates loads around 750,000 kilograms of premium chocolate giveaways onto its aircraft annually and uses approximately 260,000 kilograms of chocolate ingredients to create desserts served on flights worldwide.
According to the airline, its chocolate offerings are developed in partnership with internationally renowned chocolatiers and premium chocolate manufacturers. Cocoa is sourced from leading growing regions in South America and Africa, with suppliers selected based on quality, craftsmanship, responsible sourcing, and sustainable production practices.
Emirates’ Culinary Design team also tailors chocolate desserts to regional tastes and destinations. Menus incorporate seasonal ingredients and local flavour preferences, featuring combinations such as berries and stone fruits on Mediterranean routes, tropical fruits, yuzu and matcha on Asian services, and pistachio-inspired creations for Middle Eastern destinations.
The airline noted that more than 250 pastry and bakery chefs produce over 120 different chocolate desserts annually, with menus continuously evolving to reflect customer preferences and seasonal trends. Emirates has also recorded an average 5% year-on-year increase in chocolate consumption, particularly for dark chocolate varieties, while salted caramel remains one of the most popular flavour combinations.
Beyond the onboard experience, Emirates offers an extensive selection of premium chocolate desserts and confectionery in its First and Business Class airport lounges, featuring creations from internationally recognised brands and artisan partners.
Each cabin class offers a distinct chocolate experience designed to complement the onboard dining service. Economy and Premium Economy passengers enjoy indulgent chocolate desserts, while Business Class customers are served refined pastry creations alongside premium chocolates from UAE chocolatier Coco Jalila. First Class passengers receive luxury plated desserts accompanied by a rotating selection of premium chocolates from leading international brands, including Valrhona of France and Canonica and Neuhaus of Belgium.
Emirates said the curated chocolate experience reflects its continued commitment to enhancing the onboard dining journey by combining culinary craftsmanship, premium ingredients, and destination-inspired flavours across all cabin classes.
